Jim Gray graduated from California State University, Long Beach, in 1958 with a bachelor’s degree in marketing and received an honorary doctorate degree from CSULB in May 2000. He served as a trustee for the California State University system from 1990-1999 and was awarded the College of Business Administration Distinguished Alumni Award in 1983. Jim is an active President’s Associate and was inducted into the Golden Graduate Society.

While attending CSULB he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and a member of the men’s golf team.  He is a member of the First Choice Bank Board of Directors. Previously, he was Chairman of the Board of Beach Business Bank. In 2002, he was honored by the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce as “Entrepreneur of the Year” and in 2006 was awarded “Distinguished Banker of the Year” by the California Bankers Association. Jim is the former Treasurer of the American Bankers Association and a past President of the California Bankers Association. He was the founding Chairman of the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific. Jim and his wife, Gail, have given a substantial amount to CSULB and are strong supporters of the President’s Scholarships.
