Poster Session

April 25, 2025

This team's project aimed to analyze the impact of Learning Technology Tools offered through the LMS on success in courses. The goal of this project was twofold: 1) identify what learning technology tools on Canvas contribute the most to success in first-year courses (with a specific focus on Beach XP) and 2) understand how the identified LMS tools on Canvas can be leveraged in a digital learning environment to help all students succeed.

Project Poster: Academic Technology Services & Beach XP

Team Members: Sabrina Dean, Addison Ganuelas, Aurora Luksetich, Marvin Mayo, Francisco S. Romero, and Dave Scozzaro.

This team's project explored the level of CSULB alumni engagement for students who complete state-supported versus self-supported graduate programs from the College of Health and Human Services. The goal of this project aimed to identify barriers to student experience and explore opportunities to increase alumni engagement among students in self-support programs administered in partnership with CPaCE.

Team Members: Erlyana Erlyana, Noemi Guevara, Laura Melendez Huezo, Ben Olson, Connie Tavarez, and Alysa Turkowitz.

This team's project aimed to shed light on the success of conditionally admitted transfer students in the College of Business, and how their experience compared to that of regularly admitted transfer students. The team asked: do performance gaps exist for conditionally admitted COB transfer students? If so, what is necessary for removing any obstacles?

Team Members: Derek Chacon, Brian Gonzalez, Ying Liu, Jessica Robinson, and Victor Wang.

This team's project explored the current status of data tracking credential student outcomes and how credential students can be better represented in institutional data.

Project Poster: College of Education

Team Members: Ryan Adams, Bre Evans-Santiago, Van Nguyen, Jessica Olague, and Nina Wooldridge.

The team's project asked: Which majors have the greatest level of attrition in CHHS? When does the attrition occur (year 1 vs. Year 2)? What are the characteristics of students who leave CHHS? What are the characteristics of programs where there is high retention? The project's goal was to look at majors that saw a high level of attrition compared to those that saw less.

Project Poster: College of Health and Human Services

Team Members: Jinhee Hur, Nora Goto, and Jennifer Villalobos.

The College of Liberal Arts Team's project looked into existing equity gaps amongst CLA students. Their research questions explored student characteristics of those experiencing equity gaps, potential student success measures for addressing equity gaps, and which students are more at risk to experience equity gaps.

Team Members: Vanessa Arnold, Dr. Eva Bohler, Liza Ivezaj, Ryan Roman, and Dr. Kelly Stewart.

This team's project aimed to identify equity gaps across the College of the Arts, specifically for first-time, first-year and transfer students.

Team Members: Anthony Byrnes, Lorenzo Gutierrez-Jarquin, Melissa Ledesma, Kate Lynch, and Kirsten Sumpter.

Using FTFY Cohorts from Fall 2012–2017 and Transfer Cohorts from 2012–2022, this team analyzed Promise student outcomes by comparing graduation rates across pathways using SSD data and identifying post-CSULB pathways for students who left before graduating using National Student Clearinghouse data.

Project Poster: Long Beach College Promise

Team Members: Coleen Maldonado, Jorge Soriano, and Jeanelle Uy.

This team analyzed trends amongst the three groups of undeclared students ("applied as undeclared," "forced undeclared," and "move to undeclared"), specifically with their handoffs to and from the college of their primary major. They also explored persistence rates, major declaration timeframes, and students' journey from sub-group to pre-major/major/college before leaving the university.

Project Poster: University Center for Undeclared Advising

Team Members: Andre Ludd, Athena Mitchell, Amir Nia, and Michael Warden.

This team answered three questions using Institutional Research and Analytics data: 1) Does Participation in the University Honors Program (UHP) affect graduation rate outcomes? 2) Are there noticeable differences in graduation rates across demographic subgroups when comparing UHP and Non-UHP participants? 3) Are there enrollment gaps in UHP?
