Goals And Objectives

The overall goals and objectives of the K-16 Collaborative are threefold:

Improve Educational Outcomes

The work that is enabled by the grant should promote college enrollment into majors that lead to careers in healthcare, engineering, and computer science, particularly for groups that have historically been underrepresented in these fields. In addition, measures of student success including retention, graduation, internship, and job placement will be tracked.

Increase Opportunities

Lack of awareness and lack of access to these fields of study can decrease opportunities for first-generation and other student groups. This grant will provide resources to build infrastructure for dual enrollment courses, articulated transfer and roadmaps, and work-based learning opportunities, all of which are cited best practices for exposure to, recruitment into, and success in the field.

Collaboration

This work will require a greater degree of collaboration between higher education institutions, K-12 districts and schools, employers, local government, and community partners than is normally afforded by day-to-day operations. This grant will support regional and sub-regional collaboration to strengthen problem-solving capacity.
