Craft Beer Festival

Published October 5, 2016

October means fall leaves, Halloween candy, everything Pumpkin and of course, beer festivals.

Cal State Long Beach is getting into the season with its inaugural Craft Beer Festival on Oct. 14-15, an open-air event at Jack Rose Track Stadium. A ticket to the event will enable festival goers to taste more than 50 varieties of beers from local, regional and national guest breweries in souvenir glasses.

There also will be a variety of foods available for purchase from Legend’s Sports Bar and Naples Rib Company, along with food trucks, craft beer exhibitors and live entertainment.

Proceeds from the BeerFest will benefit the school’s Hospitality Management Program. There are approximately 500 students enrolled in the burgeoning program that helps students land positions in all aspects of the hospitality industry, such as hotels, restaurants and airlines.

Don Penrod, CEO of the 49er Shops, came up with the idea of a BeerFest to raise funds for the program, which was looking to add facilities and educational needs in an effort to become a department at CSULB. Despite having to “jump through a few hoops”, support for the event has been campus-wide, according to Kierstin Stickney, director of marketing and communication for the 49er Shops.

Tickets are $49 for unlimited two-ounce pours. Use the promotional code “CSULB” to receive $10 off tickets when purchased online at lbbeerfest.com.
