The T-HELP prorgram (Januray 2019 – December 2020) has ended.

Six focus groups were conducted to identify the mental health and wellness needs of youth and young adults aged 13 years and older in Long Beach and surrounding cities. Focus groups were conducted at each site listed below in Spring 2019. The findings from the focus groups will help inform the development of educational modules to help youth and young adults prevent and manage negative emotions while enhancing healthy behaviors through a hybrid telehealth program.

Goals & Objectives

  1. Develop a pilot telehealth training program to address the emerging clinical training needs of PMHNP students and the PMHS needs of the Latino community in Long Beach, CA by supervising at least 12 PMHNP students in the CLCH
  2. Recruit at least 12 PMHNP students who have the ability to meet systemic needs consistent with the vision and values of the MHSA
  3. Ensure that co-located supervisor staff time increases the number of available staff supervision hours by at least 200% within the PMHS by adding students and increasing their supervision time from 4 to 6 hours each week to 8 hours each week
  4. Ensure that at least 12 PMHNP students are able to increase the number of hours they spend in the PMHS by at least 30%
  5. Provide clinical supervision that strengthens PMHNP students' skills and knowledge and supports their successful achievement of certification by the Board of Registered Nursing
  6. Ensure that at least 12 PMHNP students annually receive training in the provision of integrated primary and behavioral health
  7. Ensure that at least 12 PMHNP students receive training in best practices for provision of nursing competencies such as: Assessment; Diagnosis; Outcomes identification; Individualized planning
  8. Continuously review and revise as needed for currency and quality, the CSULB PMHNP telehealth training curriculum which currently incorporates the core values of the MHSA: community collaboration; cultural competence; a consumer/family-driven mental health system; a wellness, recovery and resilience focus; and an integrated service experience for consumers and their families to address the changing needs of the PMHS
  9. Actively motivate and encourage at least 12 PMHNP students to continue working in the PMHS after they complete their certification requirements
  10. Ensure that all co-located Nurse Practitioner Faculty supervision provided by CSULB is structured to meet the course­ requirements of each participant PMHNP through:
    1. Center for Latino Community Health and the PMHNP Collaborative on the development of the standardized procedures;
    2. Supervisor presence while telehealth clinical activities by the PMHNP student are performed
