Admission Requirements

To meet the minimum graduate admissions requirements, applicants must:

  • Have completed an MLIS, MSLIS, MLS, MIS, or other master's degree (preference given to Library Science and Information Science degree holders)
  • Have a GPA of 2.5 or above from the baccalaureate degree
  • Satisfy the university requirements for graduate admission

Apply through Cal State Apply

Cal State Apply is the centralized online application system used to apply to programs across the California State University system. You will complete one application, select the CSU campuses and programs you are interested in, and submit it along with the required $70 application fee.

  1. Visit Cal State Apply and select Fall as your term, then log in or create your account. Once you have your account, you can start, stop, and save your application throughout the process.
  2. Select CSU Long Beach as your campus and select Extended Education as the Source.
  3. Select Certificate in Instruction for Information Professionals from the list of available programs. Once chosen, the program title will be highlighted in green with a check mark to confirm your selection.
  4. Provide your personal information, academic history, supporting information, and program materials.
  5. Use the dashboard to complete and submit your application for admission to the program.
