Shams Tanvir

Shams Tanvir, Ph.D, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and Construction Engineering Management at Cal State Long Beach. 

His research and teaching focus on sustainable mobility, emphasizing the development and evaluation of transportation technologies that reduce energy consumption and emissions while improving efficiency and equity. He has led projects sponsored by the U.S. Department of Transportation, California Air Resources Board, U.S. Department of Education, and Caltrans. He serves on Transportation Research Board steering committees and chairs ASCE’s Sustainable Transportation Committee. At CSULB, he directs the Sustainable Mobility Laboratory (SuMoLab), advancing high-fidelity system simulation and emerging transportation technologies.

Previously, he served as an Assistant Professor at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and as research faculty at the University of California, Riverside. He earned his Ph.D. in Transportation Systems Engineering from North Carolina State University and his B.S. and M.S. in Civil Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology in Dhaka.
