Empowering the Next Generation: CSULB METRIC Program Brings STEM Careers to Girl Scouts of Long Beach

METRIC scholars volunteered at the Girl Scout's STEM-Tacular Badge Bash on November 9, 2025, where dozens of girl scouts were introduced to exciting possibilities in STEM fields, from computer science and creative technology to geology, chemistry, and engineering, through engaging, age-appropriate workshops.

Math Day at The Beach 2025

On October 11, 2025, CSULB hosted the 24th Math Day at The Beach, a problem-solving festival for Southern California high school students who want to have fun with mathematics and enjoy a day of camaraderie with university mathematics students and professors.

CSULB Opens Doors, Minds at Science LIVE!

Science LIVE! turned our Hall of Science into an open house, welcoming families, alumni, and future Beach scientists for four hours of hands-on discovery. Departments across CNSM opened labs and classrooms so visitors could see science up close: astronomy on the plaza, creature encounters below ground, and everything in between.

Meet Dr. Dan Kaplan, Our New Assistant Professor

Dr. Kaplan explores the interplay between algebra and geometry. Classically, one studies a geometric shape using its commutative algebra of polynomial functions. A modern approach identifies a geometric space as the space of representations of a noncommutative algebra.

Fall 2025 Resource Guide

Students, faculty and staff can take advantage of a variety of new, relocated and recently expanded resources. New offerings this year include increased artificial intelligence resources, a Beach Community Meal Bundle for commuters and an app that allows students to order lower-cost prescriptions online.
