Founding member of the Hesabu Circle
B.S., Mathematics, 1998
Suaray is an exceptional mathematician, educator and community builder whose impact at CSULB and beyond reflects a combination of academic excellence and heartfelt dedication to equity in STEM. As an architect of transformative new programs including two M.S. Options in Biostatistics and Data Science, a Certificate in AI Powered Data Analytics for Higher Ed, and proposed programs for a Minor and Certificate in Data and AI, Suaray has helped position CSULB at the forefront of statistics and data science education. Yet, perhaps his most inspiring work happens through the Hesabu Circle, a community of Black mathematicians he co-founded to share a love of mathematics with Black children and youth. Through the Circle, he has connected young students with world-class mathematicians and scholars who look like them, helping them discover their brilliance and understand how mathematics connects to their cultural heritage.
