Gary Hytrek
Gary Hytrek, Ph.D., is a professor of geography located in the College of Liberal Arts at Cal State Long Beach.
His community-based participatory research examines globalization, community development, social movements, spatial justice, and urban policy, with a regional focus on Latin America. His scholarship includes the book “America Transformed: Globalization, Inequality, and Power,” numerous articles on participatory democracy, and needs assessment and program evaluation reports. He teaches courses in social geography and urban policy and collaborates with local organizations on initiatives addressing social housing, labor, and participatory budgeting.
He earned his B.A. at California State University, Bakersfield, and later earned two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles.
