Friday, April 12th, 2024, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. 2024 Undocu Conference (Dream Success Center) Location: University Student Union (USU) Ballroom A, B, & C

The UndocU Conference upholds CSULB vision and commitment to dismantle barriers for our diverse student population. In the 5th Annual UndocU Conference, we hope to highlight the diverse and intersectional Identities of Undocumented people, which are typically neglected and overlooked. The program will facilitate community building and networking through interactive activities, a resource fair, and discussions. It will feature papers, presentations, and roundtables focused on research within, in support of, and conducted by members of the community.

The Grad Slam Competition is hosted to showcase and celebrate graduate students and their research and creative activities. Graduate students across all disciplines are encouraged to participate. This viewing reception is a space to view the submissions of the winners of the Grad Slam 2024.

Academic Affairs, in collaboration with the Office of Research and Economic Development, is pleased to support the Student Research Assistantship Program every summer. This program is designed to encourage student participation in a broad range of scholarly and academic activities and is open to eligible undergraduates and graduates from all disciplines and academic areas of study. The assistantship provides financial support during the 2024 summer intersession months to undertake full-time research and scholarly activities in collaboration with a Faculty Research Mentor (Tenured/tenure track faculty, or Lecturer with a Tenured/tenure track faculty/Department Chair as Co-Mentor).

 

 

11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Latinx Resource Center Research Presentation  Location: University Student Union (USU) Ballrooms

Four Latinx Resource Center Research Fellows will be presenting their findings of our Latine student community at CSULB. Some of the research topics include financial gaps, transfer student support, sense of belonging for our Latina students, and the history of our center. Through these research presentations, we hope our different communities across campus will have a better understanding of our center, will help centralize our center for Latine student efforts, and will work together to bridge the gaps that exist moving forward. We will also be introducing the rebranding of our center, which is based on student feedback and designed by a student artist, and will provide food.

12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. The Psychology Student Association and International Honor Society in Psychology (PSA/Psi Chi) is hosting the 52nd Annual Psych Day. Location: Psych Quad in the Psychology Building.

This event is open to all students on campus and is advertised as such. Our organization invites local grad school representatives, various research labs, and other campus-affiliated organizations to table and give students information about their programs or opportunities. We also feature a research competition from 12:30 PM – 2:15 PM, where psychology students currently involved in research are able to submit abstracts and present posters to psychology master-level students and doctoral faculty. This will be followed by a research recruitment and tabling from 3 PM – 5 PM.

In addition, we will host two workshop presentations from 12:00 PM – 2:45 PM. Project OCEAN is hosting a QPR: Suicide Prevention training and UCLA Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital is conducting a panelist presentation on DEI in mental health care. Times and locations are listed in the attachments.

Finally, we saved our best for last:

We have invited keynote speaker, Dr. ChorSwang Ngin, a social cultural anthropologist, award-winning author, playwright, and a semi-retired professor at the Department of Anthropology at California State University, Los Angeles. In her book titled Identities on Trial in the United States, Dr. Ngin focuses on…

  • Problems of identifying Asian asylum seekers without re-inscribing “race” and without essentializing culture.
  • Exploring socially constructed concepts of “race” and lack of evidence in cases of violence against women
  • Highlighting the resilience and determination of asylum seekers, emphasizing themes of love in adversity.

The keynote speaker presentation will be the same day from 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM in LH-150.

 

The 2024 Transnational Feminist Solidarities (TFS) Conference will take place at CSULB on Thursday, April 18 and Friday, April 19.  The conference is free and open to the public.  Transnational feminisms offer a critique of Western-Eurocentric and liberal feminisms and simultaneously inform and emerge from various radical feminist frameworks including, but not limited to, women of color, postcolonial, anti-capitalist, anti-racist, and abolitionist feminisms.
