Jason Whitehead

Jason Whitehead, Ph.D., J.D., is an associate professor in the Department of Political Science at California State University, Long Beach.  

Whitehead studies legal and judicial politics, constitutional law, American politics, religion and politics, and political theory. He is the author of “Judging Judges: Values and the Rule of Law” (Baylor University Press, 2014), and has published several articles on topics related to law and politics as well as religion and politics. He is also the director of the campus’s Legal Studies Certificate Program and the campus’s prelaw advisor, helping to prepare students for advanced studies in law and careers in public service.  

Before his academic career Whitehead served as a staff attorney for the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles and as a judicial clerk to a panel of judges on the Oregon Court of Appeals.

Whitehead holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Southern California and a J.D., cum laude, from Willamette University, College of Law.
