Annual Carnival Returns

Published September 1, 2016

Smorgasport is back with more dizzying rides, inflatable games, tasty food trucks and unfettered fun.

Cal State Long Beach’s annual carnival kicks off Friday in Parking Lot 3, in front of the University Student Union, offering its usual fare of food, rides, music and vendor giveaways for attendees. Roughly 5,000 students took part in last year’s festival that runs from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The fair-like event was started 16 years ago as an entertaining back-to-school night that also serves as a meet and greet for the school’s nearly 37,000 students, capping CSULB’s Week of Welcome.

All activities are free, but bring your wallets if you intended to eat. The food trucks will be charging for their fare.

In addition, Club Sports will be providing interactive sporting gear and the Student Recreation & Wellness Center will have hammocks, games and more to showcase their resources.
