Despite the undervaluing of humanities and social sciences in recent academic discourse, more recent studies are starting to show that employers do value the skills that College of Liberal Arts majors acquire and develop over time.
According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Job Outlook 2014 survey (see above figure), employers place their highest value on candidates who proactively collaborate on a team, prioritize work in a highly organized manner, and communicate effectively within and outside an organization. Whether a student is a major in Communication Studies, English, or Anthropology, these are all qualities that the College of Liberal Arts, particularly at CSULB, consistently seeks to advance in students.
NACE connects CSULB and many other colleges and universities nationwide to potential employers seeking to recruit college educated candidates. NACE also serves as a source of information for employment, hiring trends, and salary information. The association’s goal is to offer important resources for both employers and college educated candidates.
For more information on these findings, please see the Job Outlook 2014 survey article.
