Permit Information

Below you will find detailed descriptions of the different parking classifications provided on campus along with permit pricing and parking locations.

 

Student

Student virtual permits are available for purchase online via e-check (no fee) or credit card (2.75% convenience fee). Virtual permits are valid one week prior to the start of instruction. Annual virtual permits are valid at the start of summer session and end with the spring semester. 

Questions regarding virtual permits may be made at the Cashiers Office in Brotman Hall weekdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or by phone at 562.985.2222.

Virtual Permitting

CSULB now uses the License Plate Recognition (LPR) permitting system. The vehicle’s license plate will be used to verify parking purchases. No physical permits will be issued.

Where to Park

Student parking is valid in all General Parking lots. Please adhere to the specific rules listed on the signs at the entrance of each lot to avoid citation. Student parking is also valid in Restricted Parking lots after 5:30 p.m. and all day on weekends. A vehicle with a student virtual permit will be cited accordingly if parked in any Restricted lot prior 5:30 p.m. For locations of General Parking lots, please see the campus map.

Daily or Short-Term Parking

If you have not purchased annual or semester parking, you may choose to purchase a Daily or Short-Term parking from a parking pay station. Additional information and pricing provided in the Daily or Short-Term menu below.

Parking Refunds

Fall, spring or academic year virtual permits may be refunded based on the current value remaining on the permit at the time of return. Refund applications are accepted at the Cashiers Office. Summer virtual permits are nonrefundable.

Employee

Employee parking can be purchased online or at the Cashiers Office located on the first floor of Brotman Hall. Payments can be made with cash, check, or debit card, and online with e-check (no fee) or credit card (2.75 % convenience fee). Available employee parking includes full year, academic year or semester depending on employee unit. A pretax payroll deduction is available online (not available for semester permits).

Semester employee parking is valid one week prior to the start of instruction. Annual employee parking is valid from July 1 to June 30 each year. Academic year parking is valid one week prior to the start of fall instruction through the end of the May intersession.

Employee parking is valid in Restricted Parking and General Parking lots. Please review the campus map for the location of Restricted Parking lots.

Employee Carpool Program

If you are a current CSULB faculty or staff member with a paid semester or a non-expiring payroll deduction virtual permit, we highly encourage you to carpool to campus. Not only do carpool members share the cost of gas and vehicle expenses, but they can also avoid traffic by utilizing the many HOV lanes on the freeways leading to campus. Carpooling also qualifies you for points and benefits via the Employee Rideshare Program. Additional information is available on our Carpool webpage.

Employee Parking Refunds

Fall, spring, academic year and annual parking purchases may be refunded based on the value remaining on the virtual permit at the time of the refund. Employee parking depreciates at a rate proportional to the monthly rate of the virtual permit. A one-time $10.00 processing fee will also be deducted from the value of the virtual permit at the time of request. Refund requests will be accepted up to the date of full depreciation. Refund applications are available at the Cashiers Office on the first floor of Brotman Hall. Summer virtual permits are nonrefundable.

Temporary Parking

Temporary university employees may purchase temporary parking privileges from the Cashiers Office in Brotman Hall. Questions regarding other temporary parking should be made at the Cashiers Office in Brotman Hall, or by calling 562.985.2222, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Canceling Parking

Employees leaving the university must cancel their virtual permit at the same time when their exit paperwork. Employees on payroll deduction will be asked to complete a stop form, which will halt future CSULB parking payroll deductions. This is especially important for individuals moving to another state agency.

Resident

Student Residents On Campus

Students living on campus must park in designated resident spaces in Lots 14D, 14C and 19. On campus residential parking privileges are also valid in General Parking lots after 5:30 p.m., all day on weekends, or in Beachside spaces during Beachside dining hall hours. This parking designation provides parking 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, therefore no additional CSULB parking privileges will be issued.

Student Residents at Beachside

Students living at Beachside must park in designated resident spaces at Beachside. Beachside parking privileges are also valid in General Parking lots after 5:30 p.m., all day on weekends, and Lot 20 spaces during Hillside and Parkside dining hall hours. This parking designation provides parking 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, therefore no additional CSULB parking privileges will be issued.

Housing Guests

All guests of residents must purchase either Daily or Overnight parking in order to avoid citation.

Hillside and Parkside guests may park in General Parking lots for daily parking. Overnight parking is valid only in Lot 20.

Beachside guests may park in Short-Term parking spaces at the Beachside campus. Overnight parking is available for purchase starting at 5 p.m.

Resident Motorcycle Option

Residents who have purchased a Residential virtual permit may choose to exchange their permit for a valid Motorcycle permit at no additional charge by visiting the Cashiers Office in Brotman Hall.

Employee Residents

Employees living in on-campus Residence Halls may park in Restricted lots or General lots including the Employee parking spaces at Beachside Campus. Employee Residents may not park in spaces designated as Resident, or they will be cited.

Daily or Short-Term

Individuals may purchase Daily or Short-Term parking from the parking pay stations conveniently located within each lot. All parking pay stations accept credit cards and cash. If paying cash, please have exact change as NO CHANGE IS GIVEN. No refunds are provided for Daily or Short-Term parking purchases and all transactions are final.

Daily Parking

Individuals can choose to purchase parking for the day. Daily parking is valid in all lots designated as General Parking unless the space is otherwise restricted with posted signage. Daily parking is also allowed in lots designated as Restricted Parking after 5:30 p.m., and all day on weekends. Daily parking expires at 11:59 p.m. on the date purchased.

Short-Term Parking

Short-Term parking is available in select areas on campus (Lots 1, 8A, 9, 11C, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17, 21, State University Drive and the South Turnaround). Please review the campus map for all Short-Term parking locations. Short-Term virtual permits are valid only within the lot where they are purchased and cannot be transferred to other Short-Term parking locations.

Accessible Parking

CSULB Students

Students using a DMV-issued Disabled Persons (DP) placard or similar distinguishing license plate must also purchase a valid form of paid parking when parking in a disabled or Short-Term parking space. Students requiring accessible parking are not allowed to park in spaces marked as Employee within Restricted Parking lots. Access to Employee spaces within Restricted Parking lots is only permitted after 5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, or all day on weekends.

Valid CSULB parking may be obtained at the Cashiers Office during regular business hours, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or from a parking pay station. Students requesting individual parking accommodations should contact Disabled Student Services at 562.985.5401 or DSS@csulb.edu.

Accessible parking spaces are noted on the campus map. Please hover your cursor over each lot to see the number of accessible parking spaces within each lot.

CSULB Faculty & Staff

All faculty and staff using a DMV-issued Disabled Persons (DP) placard or similar distinguishing license plate must also purchase a form of paid parking when parking in an Accessible or Short-Term parking space on campus. Paid parking can be purchased at the Cashiers Office, through our online parking system, or at the pay stations provided within each lot.

Emeriti

In order to be eligible for a complimentary semester emeriti parking permit, CSULB emeritus faculty and staff must not receive compensation from the university. If an emeritus member is working for pay on campus in any capacity (e.g. FERP, retired annuitant, consultant, etc.) an employee parking must be purchased at the Cashiers Office.

  •   Emeriti permits are available at the Visitor Information Center (VIC) and the Cashiers Office located on the first floor of Brotman Hall.
  •   Emeriti permits are valid in lots designated as Restricted, General, and Parking Structure 1, 2 and 3. 
  •   Emeriti fall, spring and summer permits are available for pickup two weeks prior to the start of the semester. The fall permit is valid through winter session.
  •   If you are an infrequent emeritus member, a permit from the Visitor Information Center (VIC) will be issued each day for each emeritus visit to campus. An emeritus identification card is required for proof of status.

Event Parking 

If you are attending an event on campus, parking must be purchased. If no instructions are provided by the event coordinator, parking must be purchased upon arrival from a parking attendant at the lot entrance or from a parking pay station if no attendant is present.

Motorcycle virtual permits can only be used in areas designated as motorcycle parking. View the campus map for the locations of motorcycle parking spaces. Motorcycle parking permits can be purchased at the Cashiers Office in Brotman Hall weekdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or online. Motorcycle parking is verified by the License Plate Recognition (LPR) permitting system.
