THE URBAN-SERVING INSTITUTION, DR. ANNA ORTIZ’S BOOK EXAMINES STUDENT AFFAIRS' CONTRIBUTIONS & CHALLENGES

Published February 12, 2020

Student Affairs in Urban-Serving Institutions: Voices from Senior Leaders, a book edited by Dr. Anna Ortiz has recently been published. The book explores “how services and interventions must reflect the reality of students, understand the sociopolitical forces that affect students’ lives, and bring together a network that includes family and community.” Under the larger umbrella of addressing the literature gap that exists in Urban-Serving Institutions in regards to their structure, students, and mission, this volume discusses the many contributions made by student affairs professionals, along with the challenges faced when striving to serve and meet the needs of their respective student body. One of the book’s authors, Dr. Jenny Jacobs served as Dr. Ortiz’s graduate assistant on the project and is an alum of CED’s Educational Leadership doctorate program.
