New Student Orientation

The MSCS New Student Orientation will be held on Wed., August 20, 1:00-5:00 pm in ECS 105. All entering MSCS Graduate Students must attend this event.

1:00-2:30 pm — MSCS New Student Orientation (All new MSCS students)
2:45-3:45 pm — Academic Integrity — Hema Ramachandran, COE Librarian
4:00-5:00 pm —  MSCS International Student Orientation (Int’l Students)

First Week Mandatory Attendance

You must be in class the 1st week of the semester, or you will be dropped from the your classes.

GPA & Probation Workshop

A workshop will be held on Friday, August 29, at 3:00 pm to discuss Graduate Program GPA’s and Probation. Everyone is welcome to attend. We will meet in ECS-304. Please RSVP on-line via the Graduate Appointments link if you are planning to attend.

Register for the Fall 2014 Comprehensive Examinations

COMP Registration & Deadlines
Registration must be made in person to the CECS Department Office (ECS-552).
  • Registration for COMPs begins: Monday, August 4, 2014
  • Last Day to Register for COMPs: Friday, August 29, 2014 (End of Week 1)
  • Deadline to file for Advancement to Candidacy: Friday, August 29, 2014 (End of Week 1)
Qualifications for Taking the COMP Exams
Before you register for the Comprehensive Exams, you must satisfy the following conditions:
  1. Advanced to Candidacy. To file for Advancement to Candidacy please make an appointment to meet with the Graduate Advisor, Dr. Maples. Appointments can be made on-line beginning August 1, 2014. To schedule an appointment, follow the link provided on this web site.

  2. In Good Standing. Your GPA must be at least 3.0.

  3. Officially enrolled in at least one class during the Fall 2014 Semester.

Advising Appointments begin August 1
