The International Legacy of Adoption
Adoption impacts a larger segment of society than most people realize if you include, typically, two adoptive parents, two birth parents, the adopted person, siblings, Grandparents, etc. on both the birth and adoptive family sides. Adoption covers a large community through infant adoptions, international adoptions and relative caregivers who “adopt” the parenting roles of their grandchildren or nieces and nephews. There are complex, lifelong implications that arise in these forms of family building.
- Do you have adoptive Grandchildren and wonder how to discuss adoption with them at various stages of their development?
- Do you wonder whether it is OK to ask others questions about their adoption experience?
- Do have infertile members of your family exploring adoption?
- Have you personally thought about searching for lost relatives?
Sharon Roszia M.S. has been immersed in the fields of foster care and adoption for fifty years. She is an author and has lectured throughout the world on adoption; she has raised children through birth, adoption and foster care.
