The Student Managed Investment Fund
The Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF) was created in August of 1995 to provide its members with valuable experience in managing an investment portfolio consisting of actual monetary assets, rather than the "paper" transactions traditionally used in investment courses. SMIF is an honors level class, open to students of Finance by invitation of the Department of Finance, Real Estate and Law at CSULB. The program was instituted to expose its members to a degree of "real world" experience by providing hands-on training in securities analysis and portfolio management, and exposing its members to career-enhancing opportunities within the investments industry.

Funding for SMIF has been provided by the Department of Finance, Real Estate and Law's Foundation Account. The Foundation Account receives contributions from the private sector for the benefit of the Department's academic programs. The faculty has graciously allowed SMIF to utilize $50,000 of funds which would have otherwise be available for other endeavors. Their generosity showcases the commitment of our faculty to a quality education for their students and illustrates why CSULB is emerging as one of Southern California's most competitive universities.
