Advising for Newly Admitted Students

Welcome to CSULB!

We are excited to welcome you to The Beach! Newly admitted students will have their first contact with an academic advisor this summer through the Advising & Registration component of SOAR. During the spring semester, advisors are dedicated to assisting continuing students, but we look forward to meeting with you soon!

As an incoming student, you must complete two components to begin at CSULB:

  1. Orientation - Facilitated by New Student & Family Programs.
  2. Advising & Registration - Students in a major or pre-major will complete advising and registration with their respective College advising center or academic advisor. Undeclared students will complete registration with the University Center for Undergraduate Advising (UCUA) .

SOAR Advising and Registration Contacts

Steps to Complete Advising & Registration for Undeclared Students:

Use your MyCSULB account to submit your Admitted Student Reply and Enrollment Deposit. Once you have done that, you will be able to make your SOAR reservation.

The deadline to make your reservation can be found on the SOAR Orientation & Registration website: https://www.csulb.edu/student-affairs/student-orientation-advising-and-registration/orientation-registration.

The "SOAR Advising - Undeclared First-Time, First-Year - Fall 2024" Canvas Course will be made available on May 21st.

You must complete this Advising & Registration Canvas Course prior to your SOAR date.

Complete the First-Time/First-Year Advising Survey prior to Sunday, June 2nd or within one week of being admitted to the University.

Undeclared students must complete the survey prior to their SOAR date so that UCUA academic advisors have ample time to prepare your Fall 2024 course suggestions based on the major(s) you are exploring/pursuing.

Your advising hold will be lifted for the duration of your Advising & Registration time during your SOAR day, so you can enroll at that time.

During your group appointment, UCUA academic advisors will recommend a list of courses that are consistent with your academic goals and assist you with enrolling.

If you can't participate in or miss your orientation workshop, contact: soar@csulb.edu
