Strategic Communications

We help plan, promote, and protect the Beach brand. In service to the campus community, we conduct market research and develop strategies to inform brand-management and marketing-communications work. We also support emergency communications; develop strategies to mitigate reputational risks; establish university standards related to design, editorial style, and the institution's identity system; design templates for the web content management system; manage university response to news media inquiries; and bring together decentralized communications professionals to enhance cross-campus collaboration and coordination. Within and on behalf of the URD division, we support a wide range of central communications programs across owned, earned, paid, and social media, inclusive of editorial development, graphic design, photography and videography, and digital development.

Jeffrey D. Cook
Associate Vice President
Jeff joined The Beach in February 2019 to lead the unit and serve as the university's chief communications & brand officer. Previously, he held this and related organizational-advancement roles at a number of institutions, including two sister campuses of the California State University. Jeff also served as an adjunct instructor in marketing and other areas for 15 years. After attending high school and college in New York, he earned his master's degree in nonprofit management at the University of San Francisco.
