Finding Tests & Measures at CSULB

Researching a Test

Books
How do I find a book that discusses a type of testing?
If you are looking for a book that discusses a testing type- the best way to find it is to use a general keyword search using your terms.   If you are unsure of which terms work well, here are a sampling of Library of Congress Subject Headings that will give you books about these types of test:
How do I find a book that discusses a specific test?
To find a book about a specific test- the best way to search for books on the test is to perform a Subject search for the name of the test.
Caution- please note When seeking a test, be ready to assume that you may not have the correct title or author.   Try variations of the author's name and of the title.  For instance, the "Crowne-Marlowe Scale" is actually the "Social Desirability Scale" by Crowne and Marlowe.

Articles
- How do I find an article that discusses a type of testing?
- How do I find an article that discusses a specific test?
- How do I find studies that used a specific test?
- How do I find a study that examines a type of test?

PsycInfo
PsycInfo is the best source for finding literature reviews and discussion of possible biases in assessment tools.  To find the most useful information you can search by type of test, author of the test or the exact test name itself.  Combining your terms with the keywords listed below will retrieve different results.
ERIC
ERIC is a good source for finding literature regarding educational testing.  To find the best information it is useful to search by test name or type of test.  If you have never used ERIC before Check out the ERIC Guide for details.

PsycInfo & ERIC:  Suggested Keywords

validity

reliability
statistical test interpretation
measure predictive validity
test scale
rating scales assessment
CINAHL
Since 1995, CINAHL started including research instrument records (19 are full text). Each record contains a description of the instrument including its purpose, variables measured, psychometrics, question formats, administration and scoring information and instructions on how to obtain the instrument. If one does an advanced search and limits search by publication type=research instrument, all the different research instrument records will come up (about 80). You can also search by title of the instrument. CINAHL also has articles about tests - one can search by keyword and limit search by publication type=questionnaire.
