- The Condition of
Education which resides on the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for
Education Statistics (NCES) web page describes the current status and recent progress of
education in the United States. This compendium volume features an overview essay and 60
indicators in five major substantive areas of education.
Digest of Education Statistics

- The primary
purpose of the Digest is to provide a compilation of statistical information covering the
broad field of American education from kindergarten through graduate school. The Digest
also includes more than 400 tables that can be downloaded as a Lotus WK1 file.
Educational Demographic Unit
- http://www.cde.ca.gov/demographics/
- Provided by the California
Department of Education. This web site provides links to demographics including the CBEDS
information.

- The National Center for Education Statistics provides information on a variety of topics
related to education in the U.S. Included is statistics on Early Childhood

- The DataQuest helps find groups of schools and districts based on selected
criteria including the Academic Performance Index (API) for all California schools.

- This is a primary source for U.S. statistical information for a variety of different
topics including health, business, birth rates, housing and more.

- County and City Data Books
- This site is maintained by the University of Virginia. It allows you to select
specific data regarding cities and counties all over the US and generate custom
tables. This site takes its data from the Census so the most recent information
available is 1994 until they add 2000 Census data. One of the easiest ways to get
all the statistics about LA County you need!

- The statistical abstract of California provides basic demographic and statistical

- From this site you can access the CSU Statistical Abstract which provides comprehensive
statistics on student characteristics, academic and support programs, access, retention

system in California.

- Excellent book for finding out statistical information specifically dealing with the
city of Long Beach.

- RAND California Database (CSULB
Authentication Required!)
- Just Click on the option for Databases! You will then have the choice of finding
statistics about Health and Socioeconomic, Population and Demographics, Government
Finance, Education , the Census and Community. Includes API index and test scores for
compiled at the county, district or individual school level.

Finding Statistics in Articles
- Newspapers: Proquest
(CSULB Authentication Required)
- This database allows you to search for articles that
specifically provide statistics. From the main screen click on the
"Guided" Search tab. From the next screen you will be able to select
"Article Type"- select the "statistics" option. You will then
find articles that give you statistics about your topic if any are available. This is also
a good place to look for specific surveys of ethnic groups that have previously been
lumped together e.g. asians.

- This database allows you to search for articles by
adding in terms that would indicate
statistics e.g. survey- rates- average- percentage, etc. Be creative and use
synonyms and plurals!
