Call for Faculty Lead Applicants

The President's Commission on Sustainability is seeking applicants for the Faculty Lead role for the Sustainability Fellows Program.

Sustainability Fellows is a non-academic, student leadership program created, sponsored and coordinated by the President’s Commission for Sustainability (PCS) and the Office of Sustainability at CSULB.  The program goals are to provide students with opportunities to gain recognition for their participation and leadership in activities that expand their own climate and environmental knowledge, while contributing to creating healthier, more resilient, and more equitable communities on and off campus. 

 

The Role of Faculty Lead 

We are searching for one (1) faculty member to join our team. Faculty Lead is responsible for serving as an advocate, mentor, and coach for student interns participating in the Sustainability Fellows program. As a Faculty Lead you can expect to: 

  • Dedicate 10 hours per semester to the supervision of 10-15 student Fellows and program coordination through the following tasks   

  • Coordinate and attend an orientation meeting with the Office of Sustainability 

  • Lead a meeting/workshop with Sustainability Fellows 1x in fall semester, 2x in spring 

  • Establish and maintain cohort Canvas page 

  • Monitor Fellows’ completion of requirement on Canvas page 

  • Communicate & share program updates with Office of Sustainability 

 

Criteria / Qualifications 

  • Prior participation in sustainability or environmental justice advocacy at CSULB, like teaching or conducting research, supervising student group, department, college, or university service, or community engagement in the areas of sustainability and/or environmental justice. 

  • At least two years of experience using best practices in student mentoring, ideally with diverse groups of students (e.g., first generation, low-income, and/or Students of Color) 

  • Experience working across disciplines and in campus-wide groups with a demonstrated record of successful teamwork and on-time deliverables. 

  • A commitment to student success, broadly defined, and increasing equity for all CSULB students.  

 

Time Frame & Compensation 

This is a two-semester faculty position, starting in fall 2024 and running through spring 2025.  Faculty will be compensated for 10 hours each semester (to be compensated at approved salary rate as additional employment).  A Faculty Lead who is successful in their role may have the opportunity to extend their participation for Cohort 2 of the program (fall 2025- spring 2026).
