Gift of the Month

James N. Stephenson, a 1964 graduate of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, has made a very generous “blended” gift — comprising both an outright cash contribution and a bequest provision — that has established the James Stephenson Endowed Scholarship at his alma mater.

The Stephenson Scholarship is awarded annually to two talented junior- or senior-level biology and/or biochemistry majors who have learning disabilities and financial needs.  Mr. Stephenson was himself a CSULB student with a learning disability, and he credits much of his success in the pharmaceutical-sales and insurance-brokerage industries to the assistance and support he received from dedicated Beach faculty.

Please visit Disabled Student Services to learn more about how The Beach is working to break down barriers to academic success for more than 1,500 students each semester.  We are also pleased to share an in-depth look into the life of one such student, Kenny Phin, who makes a big impression wherever he goes.
