Barbara Alpert has made a generous gift in support of the new Anna W. Ngai Alumni and Visitor Center. This gift will fund the Barbara and Ray Alpert Family Room, one of two spaces in the center that will be used to host larger gatherings. Construction on the new 15,000-square-foot Anna W. Ngai Alumni and Visitor Center will begin when all funding has been secured — nearly half of the $12-million budget has already been raised — with an official groundbreaking anticipated for fall 2018.
The late Ray Alpert was a member of the Jewish Studies Advisory Board at Long Beach State, and both Mr. and Mrs. Alpert have been strong supporters of Beach Hillel. Dr. Jeffrey Blutinger, associate professor in the Department of History and director of the Jewish Studies Program, said that Mr. and Mrs. Alpert “saved the Jewish Studies Program,” by stepping up during a moment of crisis to endow a chair in Jewish Studies. Their generosity and activism have touched the lives of countless people on our campus and throughout the Long Beach area.
