Greetings campus community,

As we look back on 2022-2023, we recognize remarkable achievements that defined our journey through another exciting academic year. This annual report — the first of its kind from the team behind Beach 2030 — aims to provide a glimpse into the unprecedented momentum we’ve gained in our pursuit of the mission, vision, and values of Cal State Long Beach.

Our strategic plan guiding us through the intervening decade, Beach 2030 is our roadmap to success. Five strategic priorities inform seven Action Plans leading transformative enterprises, all bolstered by three supporting plans focused on strategic funding, use of physical campus space, and campaign fundraising helping chart our path forward.

In a decade marked at its outset by monumental shifts in the very foundation of our social, personal, and professional lives, this past year we continued to leverage the many lessons learned from this era of rapid change. Pushing the boundaries of what we can achieve when we think big, when we innovate, and when we work together toward a common goal remains at the forefront of our collective vision for a better tomorrow.

To that end, this annual report recognizes bold initiatives from every corner of campus that represent progress in our pursuit of Beach 2030, aligning with the strategic priorities meant to pilot our journey through the decade. These priorities, derived from CSULB’s missions, vision, and values, encourage us to engage all students, expand access, promote intellectual achievement, build community, and cultivate resilience. They offer ambitious yet attainable declarations about a future we aim to actualize.

While Beach 2030 is a multi-year initiative that will require a significant realignment of resources, it is important to note the investments are campus-wide, as every college and division has engaged in new enterprises that demonstrate alignment with Beach 2030. In addition, the campus is devoting Beach 2030-specific funding and resources in the seven action zones that were conceived during the strategic planning process. With a budget of $6.5 million, approximately $2.3 million was allocated to fund action zone initiatives during the 2022-2023 fiscal year. The remaining $4.2 million will be allocated for additional initiatives through the fiscal year 2024-2025.

As we continue to pursue bold actions that transform, modernize, and innovate, we recognize that our success is grounded in our ability to work and dream together, as a university united around our shared pursuit of a better Beach for all.

Sincerely,

The Beach 2030 Team
