Nearly 90,000 Applications

California State University, Long Beach received a record-breaking number of applications for the fall 2016 school year. The application period for fall 2016 was held from Oct. 1 to Nov. 30, and the university received nearly 90,000 applications -- 60,498 from first-time freshman and 29,001 transfer student applications.

That number of applications was also the highest among the 23 CSU campuses – a trend that CSULB has maintained since fall 2010 (except for fall 2015).

Overall, the number of applications the university receives has been on a steady incline since 2003 with close to 42,900 applications in fall 2003 and over 92,000 in fall 2014. Last fall, CSULB had 32,079 undergraduate students and 5,367 graduate, post-baccalaureate students.

The CSU reported receiving more than 830,000 applications by prospective students for fall 2016 – marking a 4.8 percent increase and more than 40,000 applications over last year’s total.

“The CSU does much of the heavy lifting required to build an educated workforce in California and it’s something that we’re incredibly honored to be a part of,” CSU Chancellor Timothy White said in a statement.
