Can our hero resist the temptation of his past lifestyle? Add a secret speakeasy with some flappers, a prince, a prison warden, and plenty of champagne and the story hilariously evolves.

The Collegium Musicum, under the direction of David Garrett, presents four great musical works from the baroque era. Instrumental extracts from Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s opera, Médée, shows French baroque music at the height of King Louis XIV’s court. George Frideric Handel’s Concerto Grosso, Op. 6, No. 8, is an example of the concerto grosso in its fully developed form. The ensemble also plays two versions of music inspired by Cervantes’ comic "Don Quixote." One version, by French composer Joseph Boismortier, is a set of instrumental pieces from his opera/ballet. The other, by the great German composer Georg Philipp Telemann, paints clear pictures in music of some of the scenes from the story of Don Quixote.
Program:
Marc-Antoine Charpentier—Médée
George Frideric Handel—Concerto Grosso, Op. 6, No. 8
Joseph Boismortier—Don Quichotte Georg Philipp Telemann—Don Quixotte
