  • Aesthetics Web Sites: comprehensive links to sites on aesthetics, maintained by the American Society for Aesthetics
  • Cognitive Science and the Arts: collaborative on-line bibliography maintained at University of Houston, with links to on-line materials on film, visuals arts, science and art, music, literature/linguistics

Art: General
  • Arts Edge: art education programs at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC
  • Arts USA: the web site of the American Council for the Arts, with information on arts advocacy and public policy
  • ArtsWire: national communications network for the arts community, with art news, discussion groups, on-line art works, grant information, links to other resources
  • California Alliance for Arts Education: information on statewide education initiatives in the arts
  • Crossconnect: a journal for contemporary art and writing featuring portfolios of artists, with a multimedia department featuring performance art as well as film art
  • LA CultureNet: Web site with on-line discussion to explore creation of digital communities in greater Los Angeles, sponsored by the Getty Art History Information Program (AHIP)
  • Leonardo: an interdisciplinary on-line journal in arts, sciences, and technology, published by MIT Press
  • National Endowment for the Arts: the home page of the NEA, an agency of the federal government; includes a comprehensive history of Federal involvement in the arts and many examples of arts activities around the country
  • Words of Art: On-Line Glossary of Theory and Criticism for the Visual Arts

Dance
  • American Dance Festival: the premiere festival of modern dance in the United States, with many affiliated educational programs, at Duke University
  • Ballet Web: a web site devoted to classical ballet, with many links to other sites
  • CyberDance: Ballet on the Net: extensive links to sources on classical ballet and modern dance
  • Dance Page: Estelle Souche's very comprehensive site with links to resources on ballets, dancers, choreographers, photos

Film
  • American Film Institute: extensive resources about film
  • Film-Philosophy: Electronic Salon: This site, maintained in Great Britain, includes links to information on philosophers who write about film, journals on film and philosophy, bibliographies, and extensive links to on-line writing about film and philosophy

Music
  • Classical Midi Archives: over 3,000 classical music files in Midi format. If you need a Midigate player, you can download it at this site as well. The site permits you to download up to 100 files for your own personal use.
  • Leonard Bernstein: an extensive on-line archive maintained by the Bernstein estate, with excerpts from his recordings, photographs, letters, catalogues, scores, and other materials.
  • Soundsite: on-line journal of sound theory, philosophy of sound, and sound art

Theater
  • Theatre Central: comprehensive listing of theater resources on the Internet

Visual Art
  • African Art: Aesthetics and Meaning: an electronic exhibition catalog from the Bayly Art Museum at the University of Virginia
  • California Museum of Photography: On-line exhibits at the Museum at University of California, Riverside
  • Eyes on Art: resources for teachers, in a discipline-based approach to arts education, created for pacific Bell's Education first Initiative
  • FineArt Forum: a directory of online art resources
  • ArtsEdNet: extensive site at the Getty Education Institute for the Arts, with resources for art education, including on-line exhibits, discussions with featured artists, and materials on the history, criticism, and philosophy of the visual arts
  • Los Angeles County Museum of Art: LACMA's home page includes artist interviews, online catalogues, and the exhibition schedule
  • Louvre Museum: on-line images from the collection at the Paris museum
  • Metropolitan Museum of Art: generous on-line exhibit from the New York museum
  • The Thinker: Imagebase with 50,000 works on paper, including search tools
  • Webseek: A content-based image and video search catalog tool for the Web, maintained at Columbia University
