The Internet and Marketing

Since the advent of the personal computer in the early 1970s and since the creation of the CIX (Commercial Internet Exchange) in 1993, Marketing has acquired a powerful tool which is unprecedented in the world of business.  A sound knowledge and experience in using the Internet in the performance of the various important functions of Marketing has become essential for any major, especially for students with Marketing concentration.

Marketing products and service on the Internet is the phenomenon of the 90s! You can reach the public by having a Web site for your business with a minimum amount of investment of your time.  While knowledge of HTML is desirable, it is not necessary to build, edit or modify your Web site.  Products like Front Page Express, MS Word 2000, and  Netscape Communicator (i.e., the Composor) have capabilities to help you build a Web page in English and convert it into HTML language.  Analogically speaking, one does not have to speak French to be able to cook a Cajun gourmet meal.

Dr. Demirdjian has incorporated the Internet in his courses for over twelve years now.  Although he does not teach HTML, he is well versed in the history and application of the Internet to Marketing. As an incentive for his students to do the additional work in the area of the Internet, those who successfully complete the requirements will receive a letter of recommendation signed by Dr. Demirdjian. Whenever possible, Dr. Demirdjian assigns Internet-based projects and exercises in advance so students could manage their time accordingly during the semester.

Dr. Demirdjian does not get any money or assigned time for doing this.  He  firmly believes that faculty owe our students the state-of-the art education to equip our graduates with the latest technologies to excel in today's fiercely competitive marketplace.
