A "bequest" is the legal term for a gift made in your will or living trust. A bequest is one of the easiest gifts to make. With the help of an attorney, you can include language in your will or trust specifying a gift be made to family, friends or California State University, Long Beach as part of your estate plan. Be sure to tell us how to use the funds when they arrive many years from now. The simple form below will assure CSULB can carry out your wishes.

I may modify or revoke the plans at any time and will notify the University in writing if my plans change. I understand the estimated value stated here may change before the gift arrives. This information will be used only to assure the estate gift is applied according to my wishes when the funds arrive many years from now. A bequest can be made in several ways:
- You can gift a specific dollar amount or asset
- You can gift a percentage of your estate
- You can gift from the balance or residue of your estate
- You can make a beneficiary designation of certain assets

Designations to California State University, Long Beach should be made through the campus auxiliary foundation that can accept philanthropic gifts. We suggest that you use the following language in your will, trust, insurance policies or retirement accounts:
To the CSULB 49er Foundation (Federal Tax ID # 45-2163910),
to be used according to my letter of instruction on file with the University.
Developing a letter of instruction will allow you to redirect all or a portion of your gift to various purposes at the University without having to change your estate documents.
Informing us about your gift today – even if you wish to remain anonymous – assures that your gift is administered according to your wishes when it arrives many years from now. Just return the form, “Instructions for My Legacy Gift to CSULB” Please be sure to indicate on the form whether you want recognition. We will keep your gift highly confidential at your request.
