The National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties (2017) and the American College of Nursing (2011) have noted the value of incorporating telehealth into the curriculum. The telehealth curriculum, in this psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) clinical training program, incorporated simulation to provide nurse practitioner students with the opportunity to demonstrate use of telehealth equipment and become familiar with telehealth competencies. In addition to didactic instruction, hands-on clinical experience with community partners increased student engagement related to telepsychiatry as an important component of clinical education and a valuable health care delivery option.
