Workforce Cultural considerations
Focused group discussions were held Spring 2019 with youth and young adults at the four sites partnering for this training program. Cultural considerations brought up through this process were barriers to or lack of privacy at the originating (patient) site, preferred equipment for interaction, variation in software and equipment preferences and ease of use, barriers to access due to timing (e.g. non-standard appointment times), costs including equipment, data collection, or for the service. Privacy concerns were paramount including whether interfacing with a provider one-on-one (someone in near-by patient environment might overhear), or a group (trust within the group). Concerns about interception of electronic transmission were also voiced. A clear preference for human interaction was voiced. The anonymity of an on-line or telephone service were seen as ways to break down entry to seeking professional help.
