Fall 2020 Alternative Mode of Instruction
Below is the glossary of terms pertaining to the mode of instruction for classes.
All classroom instruction occurs synchronously at a location where both the instructor and students are physically present.
All class meeting time replaced with remote work, such that students do not meet in person for any learning activities; online courses may include both synchronous online alternative modes of instruction and asynchronous online work.
Online Instruction, Synchronous:
All class meeting time replaced with online alternative modes of instruction (AMI), such that students do not meet in person for any learning activities; has a specified day/time meeting schedule
Online Instruction, Asynchronous:
All class meeting time replaced with online work, such that students do not meet in person for any learning activities; no specified day/time meeting schedule
Combination of face-to-face instruction with online alternative modes of instruction; may include both synchronous and asynchronous instruction.
Learning activities where the instructor and students participate at the same time, typically on a set schedule.
Learning activities where the instructor and students participate at different times, typically within a specified time frame.
Basic Technical Requirements:
Students will need reliable Internet access and a PC computer or a Mac with the latest version of a web browser; broadband Internet connection (DSL or faster); and a soundcard and headset with attached microphone for some courses. Some courses incorporate tests, graphics, video, audio, chat room, and links supported by a web site to deliver instruction via the Internet; check course syllabus for details. Students with disabilities who require reasonable academic accommodations are strongly encouraged to register with the Bob Murphy Access Center (BMAC) each semester. Students must submit supporting disability documentation to BMAC and provide faculty of any BMAC verification of accommodations as early in the semester as possible
