Our behavioral health team currently includes a Psychiatrist, Case Manager who is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), ATOD/Violence and Sexual Misconduct counselor who is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Referral Nurse, and Confidential Victim's Advocate.

SHS offers short term behavioral health services at no charge to active students. Students may be seen for behavioral health services at SHS by their own request or be referred by SHS clinicians or other CSULB campus programs.

Students are initially seen by the Case Manager in Student Health Services to assess which services might best meet their needs.

Some students will be referred to our psychiatrist who will get to know you and listen to your story, what challenges you're experiencing, and what strengths you have. We will offer our preliminary impressions and recommendations, and we will discuss your options using shared decision making. Students can address their challenges with a combination of therapies, self-help coping skills, peer support, and wellness activities, much of which are available at SHS, other services on campus, or in the community.

Psychiatric services at SHS are short term and designed to help you while facilitating continuous care in the community. Students will not receive ongoing psychiatric treatment at SHS.

SHS does not bill or report to insurance. Some prescription medications are available at reduced cost at the SHS pharmacy; some will need to be filled at an outside pharmacy using your own insurance or cash. SHS has an independent electronic medical record system and your confidentiality and privacy of your records are highly protected. Except for a few limited, legally mandated exceptions, SHS will only release your records with your direct involvement and consent.
