What’s CalFresh?

CalFresh

CalFresh is a nutrition assistance program that helps individuals and families buy the food they need. CalFresh dollars help stretch a tight food budget and help many people afford to incorporate healthy foods like fruits and vegetables into their diets.

CalFresh is the name of the USDA-funded Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in the state of California. Recipients receive and “spend” CalFresh benefits electronically, via personal Golden State Advantage electronic benefits transfer (EBT) cards that look just like any other credit or debit cards.

Other words you may hear that are associated with CalFresh are ‘food stamps’ or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) but in California we keep it fresh—CalFresh! Whatever you call it, it is a smart move to get extra money for food so you can eat healthier and use your money wisely!

CalFresh Outreach

The CalFresh Outreach Program is funded through the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) and is in collaboration with several local social services offices. We are a compassionate team who help navigate students through the entire CalFresh application process virtually via phone or Zoom. We assist with the application, submitting verification documents, and support students in completing all requested action from the county. We can also assist you with the SARS7, which is a semi-renewal process 6 months after you have applied. Feel free to contact us if you would like more information, we are here to support you.
