History

In 2015, the Chancellor of the CSU commissioned a study to see how campuses were serving and addressing food and housing insecurity. One of the key findings revealed that our campus, CSULB, was one of five campuses that incorporated students' basic needs into student success directives. Our campus already had emergency services such as the emergency grant and emergency housing at this time in 2015. We later implemented the Beach Bites app and the hotel vouchers program in 2016. In the same year, Associated Students Inc. established the ASI Beach Pantry. Most recently, in 2020 we established our Rapid Rehousing Program in partnership with the local nonprofit Jovenes. We are proud to be one of the first CSU’s to create emergency services to serve students experiencing food and/or housing insecurity and we look forward to continuing to improve and create new and innovative ways to serve our students.
