SLC Re-opens with New In-Person Exhibit

Published April 7, 2022

After a 2-year closure, the Science Learning Center (SLC) re-opens to our campus community with a special exhibit: Dig It! The Secrets of Soil. SLC opened with this special exhibit for Earth Month in April 2022.

This 'mini-exhibition' is the result of a collaboration with the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History and graduate students enrolled in the SCED 590 Special Topics class Advanced Practices in Informal Science Education. Informational panels about the importance of soil are coupled with several hands-on activities, videos, and even live specimens (yes, animals that live in soil!).

Dig It! The Secrets of Soil will be open on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays from 11:00am to 1:00pm. The exhibit will last through June 30.

The Science Learning Center is located in the Hall of Science (HSCI), room 110, on the Cal State Long Beach campus.

About the Science Learning Center

The Science Learning Center provides unique learning experiences for elementary and middle school aged students in local communities, as well as the students of CSULB, through exhibits and activities that encourage questioning and hands-on investigation.

Through both on-site and outreach programs, the Science Learning Center seeks to support STEM awareness and interest, to inform and support local science education and provide an avenue to showcase research in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics to new audiences.
