A Message From Provost Jersky
Dear Campus Community,
At convocation, President Conoley and I detailed our two-year plan for Beach 2030. We expanded on how the campus will transform for the two-day event on November 14-15, Imagine Beach 2030. Each college and division will soon announce their exciting Beach 2030 opportunities that I know will encourage discussion, dialogue and debate.
Our hope is that these events leading up to Imagine, as well as the event itself, will highlight the importance of everyone’s voice. We want all who care about our campus to share their thoughts during this time. Between now and Imagine, already planned efforts on campus will have a Beach 2030 aspect to them.
What makes this method so unique is the pathway for our 10-year accreditation visit. Traditionally WSCUC asks institutions to follow a specific long-form review process, including nine components of the self-study, and an offsite review. Our process will provide the same essential elements, but will be streamlined and centered on our three core tenets: inclusive excellence, intellectual achievement and public good. We are one of only 10 campuses that have been approved to take this alternative route.
This groundbreaking accreditation technique is called Thematic Pathway Reaffirmation (TPR). What we hope to gain is a deeper affirmation of our core tenets, but also a comprehensive plan that includes all who call CSULB their home.
Much like Beach 2030, our WSCUC accreditation needs our campus to engage. Over the next month, WSCUC teams and sub themes will be formed. This will guide how you can be involved in the process. Be on the lookout.
It is an exciting time, and I am looking forward to seeing how our campus can come together and positively affect change for our collective future.

In Memoriam
Dr. Carolyn Bremer passed away on September 2, 2018. Dr. Bremer was the Associate Director of Bob Cole Conservatory of Music and taught composition.
Dr. Elbert W. Segelhorst has passed away. He was a professor of economics in the College of Liberal Arts.
