CSULB, CSU Campuses Discuss Reimagining the First Year

Last week, our campus hosted five other CSU campuses, along with visitors from the CSU Chancellor’s office, to discuss a joint initiative to reimagine the first year of college (RFY). For us, this includes both freshmen and first-year transfers.

In February, we were selected as a sponsored group for the national initiative by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), and now we are working together as an RFY community within the CSU. Last week's meeting provided an opportunity for the campuses to learn from each other’s best practices and look at maximizing resources instead of competing against each other for funding.

You can learn more about RFY at CSULB. If you are interested in becoming actively involved in this key initiative, please contact Interim Associate Vice President Nele Hempel-Lamer for details.

Parking Updates

Parking with Concurrent CSU Employment

CSULB is currently working with other CSU locations to simplify the processes for parking on multiple CSU campuses when concurrently employed. The process will be guided by the university where the permit is purchased and the CSULB Financial Management Office will help facilitate this process for all eligible employees (students are not eligible). Please contact the Financial Management Office at (562) 985-4162 to initiate concurrent CSU employee parking.

Permits Not Yet Included in the License Plate Recognition Program

The campus is transitioning to License Plate Recognition (LPR) for parking permits on August 15. However, during the first phase of implementation there will be certain specialized permit groups that will continue to use paper or hangtag permits for the 2016-17 academic year, for example, volunteer, emeriti, and guest permits. If you are unsure whether your activity will be included in the LPR implementation, please contact your department chair or the LPR main information line at (562) 985-8292.
