Provost's Message - April 17, 2019
Message From Provost Jersky
Dear Campus Community,
As we turn the corner to the end of this academic year, I want to take a reflective pause. Over the past year, our campus has had several reasons to celebrate. Our university has topped several prominent lists based on social mobility, degree value, best public institutions as well as celebrated programs and majors. We increased our graduation rates which meant more students achieved their dreams of a college degree. The economic impact report we recently distributed proved how our university drove economic dollars to the region which enhanced and benefited our community.
We also had a record number of students applying to our university. All of this I believe is based on the success of our faculty, staff, and administrators. They continue to amaze me with their dedication to our students as well their passion to better our communities.
There is no greater joy than working alongside a team of dedicated individuals with a common goal and purpose in mind. While we might sometimes disagree, we do share a collective vision to educate the next generation. Commencement at the end of the year is the symbolic culmination of why we all chose the profession of higher education.
Another aspect to the end of the year centers on accolades and achievements. This month I have the pleasure of honoring faculty, staff and students for what they accomplished on our campus, and in our community and surrounding neighborhood. The University Achievement Awards celebrate members from across the whole campus who have made a difference. This too has a way of centering our perspectives on our collective purpose.
Our society desperately needs the next generation to make a difference, and that is precisely what we make possible every day.Thank you to all who partner with me – I could not do it without you.
Warmest regards,
Brian Jersky
Provost and Senior Vice President
