Courtney's course is M, W 12:30 - 1:45 pm [ Section 44, #5726 ]

My name is Courtney Seyranian and I am a senior at Cal State Long Beach majoring in Finance. I have always been very interested in the business world; at age 19 I passed the California real estate license examination and have had experience working as an agent for a commercial real estate and property management company. I also am passionate about continuing my education; I am currently applying to grad schools to pursue an MBA concentrating in finance after graduation this spring. Being an SI Instructor for Business Statistics is an exciting opportunity that allows me to combine my enthusiasm for both business and education.

Statistics is a necessary subject students need to master to be successful in the business world for a multitude of reasons; whether it is calculating the standard deviation of a portfolio in finance, determining the level of confidence in decision making for managers, or even increasing one’s score on the math section of the GMAT. Simply put, every student majoring in business can benefit from a deeper understanding of statistics. As an SI Instructor, I am ready to guide students in developing the necessary skills to be successful not only in this challenging course, but also in their future careers.

Adam's course is Tu, Th 3:30 - 4:45 pm [ Section 47, #8529 ]

My name is Adam Fixler, and I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. Before transferring to CSULB in fall of 2015, I spent five years in Santa Cruz attending Cabrillo College. I am currently working toward a bachelor’s degree in accountancy with a minor in math. I am involved with Beta Alpha Psi & Accounting Society, which has provided me with much needed support at CSULB.

I was a math tutor at my community college, and it was such a rewarding experience that I have been looking for something similar since transferring. I am excited to be an SI leader and to not only become part of other students’ support network, but to also learn a lot along the way. In addition to my schooling, I play classical piano, French horn, and have sung in many choirs in the past.

Joe's course is M, W 11am - 12:15 pm [ Section 65, #11192 ]

My name is Joseph Lopez. I am a 4th semester SI leader, and an SI mentor. I will be receiving my bachelor’s degree this semester, and plan to applying to graduate programs.

I applied to be an SI leader because I want to teach. Being an SI leader has taught me a lot in terms of discipline, time management, and staying on task. I am extremely grateful for the skills I have learned while having this job, and I am genuinely looking forward to helping others establish the skills they need to be successful in their lives in conjunction with the content material. I want to help pass on all the knowledge I have learned to help establish a strong future for the SI program. I care very deeply about my major and I am looking forward to learning more about mathematics.

Vanessa's course is M, W 11 - 12:15 pm [ Section 48, #8530 ]

My name is Vanessa Reno, and I am born and raised in Southern California. I call Anaheim my home. I’m currently finishing my Bachelor’s Degree in Math Education. I will be graduating at the end of this school year in Spring 2017. I plan to continue on to earn my teaching credential and possibly a Master’s in Mathematics.

A couple semesters ago, two professors approached me about the SI program because I was a student assistant who helped with grading exams for their classes. They recommended that I apply for the job as an SI for the Mathematics department. This will be my 2nd semester as an SI Leader, and I am very excited about gaining more experience in teaching and helping students succeed in IS 310. GO BEACH!!!
