Graduate Culture Initiative
In recognition of the unique learning needs of our graduate students, the College of Education offers the Graduate Culture Initiative (GCI). The GCI aims to build a community of student learners and scholars that fosters professionalism and collegiality. The GCI provides writing, research, and other kinds of support for graduate students in the College of Educaton.
Newly admitted College of Education graduate students are invited to meet their peers and faculty and in-person and online events. Sessions provide an overview of College of Education resources, University resources, and an opportunity to hear from current students about their experiences.
The Graduate Studies Office sends a weekly email digest to current students. We compile important information and announcements to send once per week in an effort to reduce the number of emails students receive from our office on topics such as important deadlines, College of Education events, campus events and workshops, job/internship/volunteer opportunities, and campus resources.
College of Education has dedicated a study space on the second floor of the Liberal Arts (LA1) Building for our graduate students to use. The six-digit entry code is emailed to students each semester.
The College of Education Peer Advisor for Student Engagement connects both current and new graduate students to campus resources, integrate them to our academic community, and provides ongoing peer support through virtual and/or in-person orientation events, office hours, community building, and professional development programs.
The College of Education hosts Professional Development Institutes (PDIs) during the Fall and Spring semesters on topics such as Getting Acclimated to Graduate School, Basic and Advanced Library Search Techniques, Academic Writing, Getting Started with a Thesis or Project, and Career Development Opportunities. These institutes are open to all students matriculated to a graduate program in the College of Education. Matriculated students are notified about these institutes by email.
The College hosts an annual research colloquium that features our students' scholarship, action research projects, theses, and research projects. This colloquium is a wonderful celebration of the exciting work that our students are doing.
