STEM Faculty Grant Workshop: Grant Writing Pros & Cons – Starting Up a Newly Funded Award

Workshop Description:

The presenter will reference his experience applying for and getting funded by the National Science Foundation.

Dr. Barjasteh’s $2.1 million NSF grant is establishing an active learning education environment that includes:

• Training skilled Hispanic STEM students in order to shrink the diversity gap among the workforce in the STEM fields.
• Ensuring students benefit from an active learning approach by conducting applied research, guided by a team of mentors from both academia and industry.
• Providing each research team with access to a business advisor and a compliance advisor as a supplemental tool to meet the established benchmarks of the research project.
• Developing a business course that will prepare students to better understand the economic aspects and business-related challenges in their future careers in industry.
