Jonathan Lo

Working at the intersection of business strategy and design, Jonathan helps people and organizations express their big ideas by building impactful brand experiences. He has dedicated his career to guiding and elevating communication design through strategy and storytelling.

Jonathan’s experience spans across agencies, in-house departments, and freelance design. As the Creative Director at Virgin Orbit – the Long Beach, California-based NewSpace launch start-up – he is responsible for creating the brand identity and experience across physical, digital and virtual platforms. Prior to joining Virgin Orbit, he worked at several agencies including Mirada, The Partners, and 2x4, with clients like Nike, Bloomberg, and MoMA. He has led in-house design departments at Shop Architects and The Broad Foundation, helping to create design-forward organizations. He has supported a wide variety of mission-driven projects through his freelance platform Public Assembly, with clients including The Bronx Museum of the Arts, NRG Station A, NYU, and The Broad Center.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Before focusing on design, he worked as an investment banker, a consultant at an economics think tank, and an instructor at a wall street financial training firm. He is also a co-founder of several entrepreneurial initiatives including The Drop, an art festival designed to fill vacant space across New York City; and Sugar Pie Honey Buns, a sustainable online bakery service in Los Angeles. Outside of the workplace, he is a passionate environmentalist, volunteering with Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project and contributing to the grassroots climate change network called the Climate Working Group.

Jonathan is a lecturer in the Human Experience Design Interactions (HXDI) program.
