Jim Turner began his career in entertainment at the age of 4: first, as a child actor, appearing in films, television, commercials and theater, including a guest-starring role opposite David Carradine in the ’70’s hit TV show “Kung Fu,” and then as a musician, performing traditional jazz live across North America and Japan. After dabbling in screenwriting, filmmaking, teaching and a decade-long detour into the toy and model kit industry as a product manager creating amazingly realistic movie and comic book- licensed collectibles, Jim returned to his life-long love of film with a focus on post production. In 2007 he took his first Avid class and was hooked. The following year he joined the staff of the Moviola Education Center with the desire to help others achieve their goals in post production by providing the best training available. In 2009, he became an Avid Certified Support Representative (ACSR Editing & Storage). In 2012, as part of his efforts to help others, Jim became an Avid Certified Instructor. He is the former Principal Instructor and Training Operations Manager for the Moviola Education Center and has also taught at the American Film Institute Conservatory, Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, UCLA, Key Code Education and, as a Master Instructor for Avid, trains other instructors to teach Media Composer. In addition to teaching, Jim has worked as an Assistant Editor and other post production roles on several productions.
