Film and Electronic Arts (FEA) (@csulbfeafolks) and 22 West Media (@22Westlb) are proud to present "Running the Show," a conversation with the showrunners of the hit television shows "Bel-Air," "All American," and "Selena: The Series." Learn about what a showrunner does on a television show, what makes a good showrunner, and what it takes to get a show on a network.

T.J. Brady and Rasheed Newson from Bel-Air

T.J. Brady and Rasheed Newson are writing partners, co-showrunners, and executive producers. As a team, they have worked on the television dramas “The Chi,” “Shooter,” “Animal Kingdom,” and “Narcos,” among other shows. They are the co-showrunners of “Bel-Air” on Peacock.

T.J. grew up in a farm town in upstate New York and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1996. He went on to serve in an M1A1 tank battalion at Fort Carson, Colorado achieving the rank of Captain. In early 2001, T.J. left the Army to pursue his writing dreams and moved to New York City, where he worked a corporate job by day, and took writing courses by night. After building up a portfolio, T.J. moved to Los Angeles in 2004 and worked as a sales rep for a lighting company until 2008, when he and Rasheed were hired to write for the Fox TV series, “Lie to Me.” T.J. lives in Los Feliz with his wife and four children.

Rasheed grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he fell in love with reading, writing, and television because there was little else to do there. He graduated from Georgetown University and worked in D.C. for several child advocacy groups as a communications manager and speech writer. Once he moved to L.A., he spent six year as an assistant to television executives before getting staffed on his first show, “Lie to Me.” Rasheed lives in Pasadena with his lovely husband and two adorable children.

Nkechi Okoro Carroll from All American

Nkechi Okoro Carroll is the Executive Producer/Showrunner of the Greg Berlanti-produced drama series “All American” and “All American: Homecoming.”

Prior to “All American” and “All American: Homecoming,” Okoro Carroll served as Co-Executive Producer on the drama series “The Resident” and “Rosewood.” Her other television producing credits include, “Bones” and “The Finder.” Additionally, Okoro Carroll is in an exclusive, multiyear overall deal with Warner Bros Studios.

Born in New York, raised in Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire and England, Okoro Carroll earned a B.A. in Economics and French from the University of Pennsylvania and Masters in International Economics from New York University. Prior to her television writing career, Okoro Carroll worked for the Federal Reserve where her responsibilities included managing the reserve position for the U.S. Banking system and analyzing the impact of monetary policy decisions on the domestic money markets. All of which she did while still writing and producing plays in New York. Okoro Carroll currently resides in Los Angeles.

Moises Zamora from Selena: The Series

Award-winning Mexican-American writer and filmmaker, Moisés Zamora is the creator, executive producer and co-showrunner of Selena: The Series on Netflix. He’s currently developing a limited series for HBO Max about the tragic murder of Vanessa Guillén and her sister’s heroic campaign for legislative change. Earlier in his career, he was the recipient of the Binational Literary Prize for Young Novel Border of Words for his coming-of-age novel written in Spanish. A graduate of Brown University, he was born in Mexico and immigrated to the U.S. at the age of eleven. He currently resides in Los Angeles.
