Use of Face Coverings in Classrooms and Labs

Published March 9, 2022

Dear Beach community:

As a follow-up to President Conoley's recent email about gradually reassessing existing COVID-prevention protocols, I wanted to remind our campus community that the wearing of face coverings continues to be required in our classrooms and labs.

The use of face coverings in learning spaces is an important preventative measure and is part of our layered approach to protecting our campus community. When worn properly, face coverings help slow the spread of the virus transmitted in the air by limiting the spread of respiratory droplets. Masks are very helpful in preventing the virus from spreading in crowded indoor public places, especially those that may contain a mixture of vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals.

Beyond classrooms and labs, other indoor environments on campus are also subject to continued use of face coverings as outlined on our COVID-19 information website. And to echo President Conoley, we strongly encourage the use of masks in all indoor areas even where a requirement is not in place.

I continue to appreciate your ongoing attention to the steps we've implemented over these past many months to help safeguard the health of The Beach community.
