Student COVID News – November Update

Published November 18, 2021

Dear students,

As we slowly approach the last lap of the semester, our COVID-19 response team has been hard at work planning Spring 2022. We had the chance to answer some of your questions at ASI’s Virtual COVID-19 Q&A, but we know you all still have many understandable concerns about what campus will look like next semester. Feel free to visit our November updated COVID-19 website or send your unaddressed concerns to us at students@csulb.edu. With the holidays just around the corner, it’s important to stay vigilant and careful when travelling and visiting family and friends.

COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Shots

All CSULB students are eligible for boosters under the guidance of the Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services. We encourage you to continue protecting yourselves, your friends, and your families, especially with many of us planning to travel over the holidays.

You are eligible for a booster if you are at least 18 years old AND:

  • It has been at least 6 months after completing your primary Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccination series OR
  • It has been at least 2 months after your Johnson and Johnson shot

Boosters are available on campus at the Bookstore Mondays and Wednesdays from 11am - 3pm. Walk-ups and appointments are welcome at our on-campus site. You can schedule an appointment for a booster on the My Turn website.

*Please note that boosters will not be available on campus during Fall Break (Nov. 22 & 24)

Spring 2022 Plans

We expect most students will have at least some face-to-face instruction in Spring 2022.

  • Face-to-face class offerings will significantly increase from 40% in Fall 2021 to over 73% in Spring 2022
  • Check out this video resource to guide you on course modality options when registering for spring classes.

Mask wearing and pre-screens will continue to be enforced in indoor areas.

Vaccination Rates

We have administered nearly 15,000 vaccines to our campus community, a feat that deserves to be celebrated.

  • On-Campus Student Vaccination Rate: 97.4%
  • Faculty/Staff Vaccination Rate: 91%

Campus Exposures

Since our last update, we have had a small increase in cases, bringing the number of current active cases to just 17. We still have cluster cases, meaning students are NOT transmitting the virus in their classrooms, to our knowledge. We’re so proud to have kept this number very much under control for this entire semester so far.

Weekly Testing

Weekly testing has expanded to lower campus at the Pyramid from 8am to 3pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Enter through the yellow entrance facing parking lot G11. Appointments are recommended. *Please note only the Chartroom will have testing during Fall Break: Mon. (11/22) and Tues. (11/23) from 8am-3pm, Wednesday from 8am-12pm

Flu Shots

According to the CDC, it is safe to receive your flu vaccine at the same time as a COVID-19 booster shot. Click here for the schedule of flu clinics on campus.

Please continue to fill out your pre-screen when you visit campus and only come if you get a green check mark.
