Student COVID News – December Update

Published December 15, 2021

Dear students,

As we approach the finish line of this semester, another challenge has emerged. The first cases of the COVID-19 Omicron variant have been recorded in Long Beach by public health officials. While this is concerning, there are many steps we can take to stay healthy and safe during finals week and heading into the holiday season. The best way to protect yourself and those around you are to get your vaccine and booster doses as soon as possible, remember to mask up, and get tested before attending large gatherings.

COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Shots

All CSULB students are eligible for boosters. Protect yourselves, your friends, and your families by getting your booster, especially with the holidays approaching.

Boosters are available outside the University Bookstore this week on Wednesday 12/15 from 11am - 3pm. No appointments necessary. This is the last on-campus date for the remainder of the semester.

You are eligible for a booster if you are at least 18 years old AND:

  • It has been at least 6 months after completing your primary Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccination series OR
  • It has been at least 2 months after your Johnson and Johnson shot

Spring 2022 Plans

If you are planning to be on campus in Spring 2022 and are currently unvaccinated, now is the time to get vaccinated.

At this time, our upcoming spring semester plans remain unaffected. There are backup plans in place for unexpected developments due to the ever-changing conditions of the pandemic.

Campus Exposures

We have experienced an expected uptick in campus exposures within the past two weeks, as we returned from the fall break. This mirrors the recent trends in the greater Long Beach community. Overall, the number of campus exposures is significantly lower than what we experienced early in the fall semester.

Testing

The last COVID-19 testing opportunities on campus will be Monday 12/20, Tuesday 12/21, and Wednesday 12/22 from 10am – 2pm at the Chartroom.

Our COVID-19 website has been updated for December with more information.
